What would the world look like if everyone was creatively empowered?

I’m Melisine, a media strategist and pro photographer who’s worked with some of the world’s biggest brands and influencers. When COVID-19 hit, I began teaching my unique method for soulful photography, which combines aspects of art therapy, creative self-expression, branding, and marketing. I sold out twenty online courses and helped students ranging from entrepreneurs to COVID front line doctors become confident visual storytellers.

I want to expand the impact of my soulful photography method with the Alpha Female+ grant. My goal is to amplify the work of organizations that offer low-cost or free arts programming to low income and minority girls, many of which have been hard hit by the pandemic. If selected, I would use the grant money to offer 10 scholarships to my signature month-long course to arts nonprofit leaders. Together we will create marketing campaigns that mobilize and inspire girls’ creativity.

My goal is to amplify the work of organizations that offer low-cost or free arts programming to low income and minority girls.

My course is designed to teach participants to think strategically about the images they want to capture, like a creative director at an ad agency, drawing upon my work with leading brands and influencers. I studied in a creative media graduate program with my innovative media leaders as mentors. In my class, the nonprofit leaders will learn how to bring their most ambitious ideas to life.

To apply for a scholarship, organizations will need to pitch an ambitious, community photography project they want to complete by the end of the course.
Research has shown that creative thinking is critical to navigating difficult situations. Photography is a tool that can help kids express themselves and connect to others in a meaningful way during a time of long-term isolation and uncertainty.

I’ll give the organizations limited-time access to a pre-recorded, kid-friendly version of the course. By creating collective art projects in an accelerator environment, the leaders will generate confidence and momentum around their work and communities.
