Acres of giant sunflowers with the West Maui mountains in the background? Yes please!
South of Kahului, Maui, sunflowers are planted by a renewable energy company, Pacific Biodiesel. They bloom for approximately 20 to 25 more days before harvest. The seeds are pressed into a pure oil, used by spas and restaurants. This is the largest biofuel crop in the state of Hawaii and the only one running on 100% renewable fuel showing the company’s community based intentions for sustainability and renewable energy.
