Hawaiian Flower Crowns – Haku

I love the Hawaiian traditions of connection to nature and each other. Two of my favorites are the Ha, shared breathing and haku or lei po’o, a crown made of local flowers and plants. We gathered local flowers such as plumeria, bougainvillea, and hibiscus, and then used a special needle and weaving techniques to create the haku. We then did the traditional Hawaiian greeting of sharing ha, or breath.
